AMG has developed a high-output yet more compact engine for a new era of performance. The 577-hp 4.0L V8 biturbo engine is more responsive yet more fuel-efficient than its larger predecessor. Its massive torque reaches its 627-lb-ft peak from 2,500 to 3,500 rpm, for a 4.5-second 0-60 time and quick acceleration at any speed. Yet even with its advanced design and technologies, each AMG G 63 engine is still hand-built and signed by its own craftsman.

AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9-speed transmission

Specific AMG programming of the 9-speed automatic transmission delivers quicker gear changes in the paddle-shifted Manual mode. In the Comfort, Sport and Sport+ modes of AMG DYNAMIC SELECT, the wide range of closely spaced ratios offers smooth, swift response in virtually any driving situation, from relaxed cruising to quick acceleration. Three overdrive ratios enhance highway efficiency. The electronic selector and shift paddles let you control all gear changes with your hands on the wheel.

AMG DRIVE UNIT

A set of controls on the AMG steering wheels lets you adjust performance settings quickly and easily, with integrated color displays to confirm your selection. The left switches can be assigned to functions such as the Manual shift mode, the damping modes of AMG RIDE CONTROL, and the 3-stage ESP®. The right round control knob selects and displays the driving mode of AMG DYNAMIC SELECT.

AMG high-performance Braking System

AMG high-performance brakes shed both speed and heat with remarkable power, thanks to perforated and internally ventilated discs at all four wheels. Front discs measure 14.8 inches and are grasped by red-painted 6-piston fixed-type calipers. Rear brakes are 13.0 inches in diameter and feature red-painted single-piston sliding calipers. Silver calipers are available at no extra charge.

When traveling above approximately 20 mph, radar technology can help sense when a vehicle enters the blind-spot area. Blind Spot Assist can then alert the driver via an illuminated red icon in the appropriate side mirror.
