A high-tech, high-torque powerhouse, each SL biturbo V8 is crafted by its own master in the AMG tradition. Paired with an AMG SPEEDSHIFT^® MCT 9-speed, specific SL refinements to both engine and gearbox help rush the 469-hp SL 55 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, or the 577-hp SL 63 in just 3.5.

The ideal power formula, from Formula 1

Technology developed by the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS racing team to win in Formula 1^® has come directly to the new SL 43. An innovative electric exhaust-gas turbo, hybrid assist and AMG SPEEDSHIFT^® MCT 9-speed team up for 416 hp. The first 4-cylinder SL since the '60s offers triple the output.

History rewritten, in under three seconds

The SL 63 S E PERFORMANCE is the most powerful SL ever produced. It teams a handcrafted 4.0L biturbo V8 and AMG SPEEDSHIFT^® MCT 9-speed with an electric rear motor, its own 2-speed gearbox, and advanced hybrid battery. Total output of 805 hp and 1,047 lb-ft of torque can rush you to 60 mph in a breathtaking 2.8 seconds.

Driving modes, fingertip-close.

AMG DYNAMIC SELECT lets you fine-tune the throttle, shifting, damping, steering and more. Color display buttons on the steering wheel engage preset modes from Comfort to Sport+, or an Individual mode you can customize. The SL 55 Performance and SL 63 models add a RACE mode, while the SL 63 S E PERFORMANCE adds its own hybrid modes.

Z-fold power soft top

In keeping with the SL's sportier direction, a finely tailored 3-layer acoustic soft top is nearly 50 lbs lighter than the previous model's retractable hardtop. At driving speeds up to 37 mph, the top powers up or down in via its own switch panel or the central touchscreen, which animates the 15-second process. The clever Z-fold design lets the lowered top form its own flush rear deck, further saving the weight, complexity and visible seams of a conventional cover.

Style all its own, and totally yours

Two core trims, Touring and Performance, facilitate choosing a well-equipped SL model. An enticing option menu lets you make it your own: Seventeen paint colors. Four soft tops. A range of 19- to 21-inch AMG^® wheels. And styling accents in sparkling chrome, sultry black or serious carbon fiber.

The SL's "hyper-analog" cockpit elevates a tradition of rich materials and sculptural design within a highly digital environment. A reconfigurable instrument panel is set into a classic gauge visor. The dash flows into the doors and console. Every sense finds a connection.

Practicality added, luxury multiplied

A 2+2 seating configuration adds up to versatility and luxury unmatched by previous SL cabins. The multicontour front seats feature power adjustment, heating, ventilation, and massage programs. AIRSCARF^® neck warming helps lengthen the top-down driving season. All standard.

Heated steering wheel

Heating elements within the steering wheel rim can rapidly take the chill out of your hands on a cold morning. After a few minutes, the heating level is automatically reduced to maintain lasting comfort.

Burmester Surround Sound system

One of the most respected makers of handcrafted high-end home audio, Germany's Burmester^® has developed a surround-sound system that's specifically tailored to the SL. With 11 high-quality speakers including a subwoofer and a 650-watt, 12-channel digital amplifier, the system can fill the cabin with pure surround sound while seamlessly compensating for ambient noise. Exquisitely detailed aluminum speaker grilles are as rewarding to the eyes as the system's output is to the most discerning ears.

Multicontour front seats with massage

Pneumatically adjustable lumbar, side and shoulder supports offer custom-tailored comfort. Three massage programs, Classic, Relaxing and Activating, can help soothe and rejuvenate your back.

Blind Spot Assist with Exit Warning Assist

When traveling above approximately 20 mph, radar technology can help sense when a vehicle enters the blind-spot area. Blind Spot Assist can then alert the driver via an illuminated red icon in the appropriate side mirror. An audible warning sounds if the driver activates a turn signal while a vehicle is detected in the blind spot. After parking, Exit Warning Assist can alert the driver or passenger to vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians that could be at risk if the door is opened.

PARKTRONIC with Active Parking Assist

Active Parking Assist can search for suitable parallel or perpendicular parking spaces to either side as you drive by. Choose a space to pull or back into, and it can expertly shift, steer and brake for you. When it's time to leave, it can also steer you back out. In any low-speed maneuver, PARKTRONIC sensors in the front and rear bumpers help detect nearby objects within their field of view. Audible signals and illuminated displays in the cabin help you navigate tight spaces with confidence.

10 air bags

An advanced system of 10 air bags offers extensive occupant protection. Standard for the driver and front passenger are dual two-stage front air bags, knee air bags, and side-impact air bags. Also standard is a head air bag at each of the four seating positions, a feature not often found in a roadster.

Brake Assist (BAS)

Brake Assist (BAS^®) can sense emergency braking via the speed at which the driver presses the brake pedal and immediately apply maximum available power boost. Brake Assist can potentially reduce the overall stopping distance by eliminating the delay caused by a common human tendency not to brake hard enough, soon enough. Letting up on the brake pedal releases Brake Assist.
